Delicious Ramadan Recipe: How to Make Mouthwatering Chicken Biryani


Ramadan is a holy month in the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. As the day ends, families and friends gather to break their fast with delicious and wholesome food. Chicken Biryani is a popular dish during Ramadan, and it's easy to see why. Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of basmati rice

  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 2 teaspoons cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice several times until the water runs clear, and soak it in water for 30 minutes.

  2. Heat the cooking oil in a large pot, and add the sliced onions. Cook for 5-6 minutes, or until the onions turn golden brown.

  3. Add the minced garlic and ginger to the pot, and cook for another minute.

  4. Add the chopped tomatoes, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt, black pepper, and red chilli powder to the pot. Mix well and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.

  5. Add the boneless chicken to the pot, and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked.

  6. In a separate pot, bring the water to a boil, and add the soaked rice to the pot. Cook for 5-6 minutes, or until the rice is partially cooked.

  7. Drain the water from the rice, and add it to the pot with the chicken. Mix well.

  8. In a small bowl, mix the plain yoghurt with 1/2 cup of water, and add it to the pot. Mix well.

  9. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked.

  10. Garnish with fresh cilantro and mint leaves.
